Who is Hickory Cole?
Thanks for asking.
I'm a writer, clearly. But what makes me different from the hundreds of successful novelists around the world? Well, there's the whole "success" thing. I'm still working on that. But aside from that I don't know, probably not much. Most writers are trying to accomplish the same thing, trying to get anyone to listen to what we have to say, whether it be a story or a blog or an article, we just want people to stop and listen (or read, as it were). Why? Because we think we have something worth reading, something that can entertain or distract our audience long enough for them to forget their own mundane life, if for only a moment. It's what I look for when I sink into my easy chair with a nice, thick novel. I am looking for an escape.
In person I am hilarious, which unfortunately doesn't translate to the page for me if you were looking for that kind of thing, and at some point everyone should. Laughter is essential to happiness. It almost sounds stupid to say that it seems so obvious to me. But there is nothing like a good laugh to remind me that I should never take things too seriously. Most of my comic genius requires personal interaction. Sorry.
Not so long ago I realized that at the pace I was on I would never travel all the places I wanted to go or do all the exciting things I wanted to accomplish, so I decided to start making stuff up. I believe I have a gift for telling a story, and painting a picture along the way. I believe my stories flow well as I pay particular attention to the rhythm of each story I write. I think an excellent example of this is "The Death of Emily Pritchett", my shortest story currently available. It is a quick read and though the subject matter and setting of that story strays a good deal from my norm I think it is still a good representation of my writing style.
